![]() ![]() When this option is on, players get a set number of troops and income in a location predetermined by the map's creator. Maps feature what is called a starting scenario. In addition to specific maps, there are also map generators, which give the player a random set of countries and continents as opposed to a set map. In addition, the coding allows for one-way connections on a map, meaning a particular "country" may be able to attack another, but not the other way around, which allows for unique strategies. Some maps are based on historic battles or wars (e.g., there is a map of the Vietnam War), and others are fantasy realms, inspired by other board games (such as "Monopoluxy," or "Scrabblux"), or are simply geometric shapes. The original maps are numerous and varied, and most of them are made and submitted by players. The bots sometimes receive respectable rankings for their online play. Some also respond to text chat, and human responses to them can influence their choice of tactics. About half of these "bots" were programmed by members of the community, and they have evolved to employ sophisticated strategies, such as recognizing players who target them, cooperation, and the imitation of other bots' behavior. The AI players play by the same rules and are subject to the same game-play limitations as human players, that is, they cannot cheat. The online player base is relatively small (about 700 regular online players), but many of them are fairly dedicated.Ī much greater number of users play the game off-line with computer AI opponents. The ranking system is very competitive, and has evolved into a two-tiered system where each player has a score in the current week, as well as a seeded place depending on the last 16 weeks of play. Like many online turn-based board games, Lux includes a chat capability, allowing conversation, tactical discussions, offers of alliance, etc., and some players use this as a political tool in their play to great advantage. However, in spite of the randomness there exists a regular group of players who dominate the multiplayer rankings. Like Risk, winning in Lux requires both skill and luck, with every attack hanging on the result of a dice roll. Awards are distributed on a player's rankings page, along with win percentage, games, and more. Aside from the weekly medals, players compete for the best seed, the calculation of a player's best weekly ranking. These games are recorded, and the player with the most Raw at the end of the week is awarded a virtual medal. Players play for "Raw," which is awarded or taken away for winning or losing games. Regardless of the map, the objective of the game is the same: eliminate all other players so only one remains. Lux has over 900 maps, each varying in size, shape, and complexity. Up to six players can play at once, and any empty spot in the game is filled up by "bots," or computer AI personalities. Lux Delux is a Risk-style clone with generally similar rules to the original.

He played in all but one game, but there’s no question he was limited for much of the year. Then, a knee injury clearly hampered him for the rest of the campaign. 1 receiver in fantasy the first five weeks of the 2021 season, as he saw a whopping 24.5 percent of the targets. Pittman is my WR12 but has the potential to finish top five at the position. Plus, there’s no question that Matt Ryan is an upgrade at quarterback from what the Colts have had the last two seasons. was targeted on 24 percent of the Colts’ pass attempts last year. My top 15 running backs were all off the board in the third round, so it was a relatively easy decision to go wide receiver in this spot. 10 in my draft rankings, so landing him with the 20th selection overall is great value. He has let fantasy owners down the last two seasons, but he should be closer to full health after another year removed from an ACL injury. If you’ve followed along through the first five mock drafts, you are aware that I am higher on Saquon Barkley than most. The Vikings are likely to air it out more this season with a new coaching regime, but Cook will get the bulk of the rushing attempts and likely an uptick in targets as well. I have Cook as my fourth overall player, just ahead of Henry, because he contributes in the passing game as well. The top four picks were Christian McCaffrey, Jonathan Taylor, Austin Ekeler and Derrick Henry, so this is another draft where I land Dalvin Cook in the first round. But the draft is where you build the foundation of your roster, and the goal is to have as deep a roster as possible. If you’re a fantasy nerd like me, turn on notifications from your favorite NFL insider for breaking news around the league. If you are drafting early, work the waiver wire to your advantage if any major injuries arise. The draft is just the start of the season. I’m guilty of this myself - see Rashod Bateman - but I will try to go with different approaches in many of these mock drafts. Your favorite sleeper is probably someone else’s too. Don’t take the same players in every mock. Most important of all, be creative with your mock drafts. ![]() Remember, do not draft either before your final two picks! However, for the sake of this exercise, I’ll round out each draft by doing so. I’d rather add a few running backs who could end up being a starter in the event of an injury. If you read my draft guide, you know I’m not a fan of drafting kickers and defense if it’s not necessary. It is a 16-round snake draft in a half-point-per-reception (half-PPR) league. The mock drafts will assume that 12 teams are in the league with the following roster construction: quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, tight end, a flex (running back, wide receiver or tight end) defense, kicker and seven bench spots. The point of these mocks is to prepare for the unexpected. ![]() I’ll be doing mock drafts throughout the summer while offering scenarios and feedback for each position. However, for nonlinear materials, we don’t have any neat expression for it – only a set of measurement data. We need that in our problem, and its derivative too. You see, the term reluctivity refers to the inverse of permeability of each material. Indeed, most of the time is spent on the ppval function, a built-in function for evaluating piecewise polynomials. Below, you can see what the Profiler had to say about its insides. But, in general it’s a good idea to start going through the most time-consuming parts of code, and seeing if something could be done.įor me, that calculate_reluctivity function was obviously the worst offender after vectorization. Once that’s been sorted out, things get a lot more problem-specific. Vectorization is indeed the most powerful and most general tip for Matlab. Kind of demonstrates the power of vectorization, right? 4. (Because I’m lazy.) Despite this, the code is much faster. Indeed, the last sample of each 1000-long chunk is evaluated again as the first sample of the next chunk. Contrasting that the the earlier 43 seconds, that’s a nice improvement.Īlso, note that the actual number of operations has been increased a bit. Indeed, what used to take eight seconds is now handled on three lines, about 0.3 seconds each.Īll in all, this simple change brought the execution time to 15 seconds. Additionally, all the plain expressions are much faster to evaluate, with no red shading visible beside that one function call. Results with doubly-vectorized code.Īs you can see, the earlier two function calls with 9 seconds each, have been replaced by one 11-second call. Below, you can find the profiling results after this double vectorization. I still had a loop in my code, but its length was reduced from 32 000 to 32.Īnd the results prove it was good. I simply mean I operated on sets -chunks- of 1000 samples at a time. Then I let Matlab work its magic on those.ĭue to memory limitations, I couldn’t handle all 32 000 time-samples simultaneously. Each row corresponding to a specific time-sample and so. Meaning I computed all quantities at all positions, at several instants of time (but not all), and stored them in large matrices. To speed things up, I implemented a partial vectorization in time. I initially thought the number of time-samples would be much smaller than the number of positions. Most of those array variables you see in the screenshot are in fact row-vectors (low but wide), with each entry corresponding to a different physical position in the problem.īut, I did not vectorize in the time-domain. Remember that I needed to calculate the same type of integral at thousands of different positions ? Well, yeah, but it’s still only a partial oversight on my part. In the previous post, you saw how much time was spent on repeated function calls, one for each time-sample. Okay, let’s see how vectorization would help my code. It can be done, but chopping the corners off the peg can take longer than expected, and the results are often horrible to read. Trying to force loop-based code into vector format often is like trying to ram a square peg into a round hole. What I mean is that you should adopt a vector-based mindset early on. Noticed how I recommended write vectorized code, not to vectorize it as an afterthought. Vectorization can often improve performance by a factor of 10. Just check the documentation about the particularities of each, i.e. Most can even be vectorized both row-wise and column-wise at the same time. But, in practice, pretty much all built-in Functions in Matlab support vector input. Okay, that was an exceedingly simple example. The expression in the parentheses creates a vector with the entries running from 1 to 100, while the dot-notation corresponds to element-wise power of two. In Matlab, you can do this by writing (1:100).^2. In a lower-level language, you would write a loop with running from 1 to 100, and compute inside. Let’s say that you want to calculate, ,, …. Vectorized means exactly what it sounds like – something that operates with arrays and vectors. They used to be much worse, but they’re still not stellar.įor this reason, you should try to write your code in vectorized form whenever possible. Loops are generally somewhat slow in Matlab. Remember to check the first part, well, first. ![]() This design choice offers very precise tone shaping potential, even if it is an unusual way to operate an amp of this type. There are 16 possible settings for both gain and volume, and 8 each for the tone controls. The controls are digital, supplying the first twist on traditional here: rather than rolling free through their ranges, each knob has discrete settings as you turn, and an LED readout to let you know where you are in the rotation. ControlsĪt first glance, the front control panel presents a traditional layout, with On/Off and Standby switches, Gain and Master volume controls, and 3-band tone stack of Bass, Mid, and Treble- the Preset control being the only unusual element. This makes tube substitution is as easy as it could be-a hefty bonus that makes it useful for yet another application, as a convenient tone-testing platform for various members of your tube collection. In addition to any of the several types of preamp tubes (12AX7, 12AT7, 12AU7, and so on), the octal tube socket also accepts 6V6, 6L6, E元4 and KT77 output tubes without the need for rebiasing. If you want to use it on stage, you can send the XLR direct to the board and use the speaker out for an onstage monitor, or use the unbalanced direct out into a clean power amp for a high-volume rig. In addition to a 4- or 8-ohm speaker out, it offers both unbalanced 1/4” and balanced XLR direct outs with an internal speaker load and speaker emulation, so you if you don’t want to hook up a cab and mic it, you can run it right into your interface. Ideally suited as a studio tool that can also serve as a practice amp with a low-power mode (for tube tone and a nice overdrive at bedroom volumes), the amp is essentially a digitally-controlled device with an all-tube signal path, and offers a great deal of flexibility in terms of applications. All it took was inserting a supplied set of JJ tubes-two 12AX7s, an EL84 and a 6V6- and it was up and running. I was able to get a number of useful tones from it right out of the box. Quite often, the phrase “feature rich” (especially when applied to amplifiers) is code for “complicated.” Happily, the ZenTone 7 from Backline Engineering, which sports an impressively long list of features for a small, 7-watt, single-ended Class A design, doesn’t fit in that category-at least not completely, anyway. In particular, how about a powered FRFF speaker? She only has one keyboard onstage, so I doubt she'll need more than one input. Probably doesn't need any effects capability as the Kurzweil does it all. She'll never be able to manage one of those, nor transport it in her small car and might not even get the floor space onstage to use one. I've played with keys players that use larger Roland keyboard amps, but they are huge and weigh a ton. She wants to upgrade and doesn't know what to look at. She's using a small underpowered Roland combo - might even be a guitar combo - and it's not loud enough or decent enough to do the full frequency thing.
